Verneile “Jean” Schumm, 92, passed away August 2, 2024 in Moline, Illinois where she resided the last eleven years. Graveside service will be Friday, August 9, 2024, 2:15 p.m. at the Blue Hill Cemetery, Blue Hill, Nebraska with Ann Auten officiating. Visitation will be Friday, August 9, 2024 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska. A memorial has been established to be designated at a later date. Jean was born in Hastings, Nebraska on September 10, 1931 to Ben Brower and Lela (Kaufman) Brower. She attended Hastings Public Schools and graduated from Bonnell Beauty Academy and was a licensed cosmetologist. She married Leroy Schumm on July 31, 1961 at Grand Island, Nebraska. They farmed outside of Lawrence, Nebraska until 2008. She enjoyed her family, friends, neighbors and her dog “Sweetie”. Her hobbies included genealogy and she was involved in cemetery dowsing.
Jean is survived by her son, Daryl Fiscus of Moline, Illinois; granddaughter, Michelle Fiscus of Kansas City, Missouri; two nephews, David and Dennis Brower of Chandler, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy Schumm; brother, James Brower; son Allan Fiscus of Moline, Illinois.
