Shirley A. Barton, 77, Blue Hill, Nebraska died Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Bryan East Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska. Services will be Wednesday, November 7, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Blue Hill, Nebraska with Pastor Dan Albers and Pastor Ken Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Creek Cemetery, East of Blue Hill, Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from 1:00-8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Merten-Butler Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials can be Directed to the Church. Private Condolences can be sent to the family at www.mertenbutlermortuary.com. Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.
Shirley was born on September 27, 1941 to Harold W. and Evelyn L. (O’Donnell) Thaut in Hastings, Nebraska. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1959. Shirley married Evart J. Barton on June 12, 1960 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska. She worked as a Bank Teller at Farmer’s & Merchant’s Bank, Milford, City National Bank, Hastings, a Bank in Troy, Kansas, Commercial Bank and South Central State Bank in Blue Hill for over 30 years before retiring. Shirley is a member of the United Methodist Church, PEO and the Legion Auxiliary all of Blue Hill, Nebraska.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Evart, Blue Hill, Nebraska, two sons, Mike (Clem) Barton, Blue Hill, Nebraska, Mark (Jodi) Barton, Lincoln, Nebraska, one brother, Dr. Hal (Betty Anne) Thaut, Beatrice, Nebraska, one aunt, Eunice O’Donnell, Trumbull, Nebraska, brothers and sisters-in-laws, Ken (Jan) Zimmerman, Blue Hill, Nebraska, Lyle (Mildred) Mason, Castle Rock, Colorado, two grandchildren, Merritt (Brittany) Barton, Central City, Nebraska and Mackenzie Barton, Blue Hill, Nebraska, nieces and nephews. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Donna Jean Thaut.
