Nina Schulz Garner

Nina Mae (Schulz) Garner was born November 10th 1922 to Gus and Hester (Karr) Schulz in Bladen Nebraska. She lived on the family farm with her parents and older brother Art. She passed away March 14th 2024 at the age of 101 surrounded by her family at home in San Tan Valley, Arizona.

Nina attended Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Blue Hill, Nebraska where she was confirmed in 1936.  In 1940 she graduated from Blue Hill High School and went on to gain her Third-Grade teaching certificate.  Miss Schulz taught at Sunny Slope and Five Star District through 1943. During that time, she married the love of her life, Glenn Garner on November 27, 1942. The couple lived on the Garner family farm northeast of Bladen and had one son Daniel in 1946. In 1954 they moved to Hastings and she returned to work as a par-professional at Longfellow Elementary School.  She retired from there after 19 years.

Nina and Glenn enjoyed camping, boating, and many Late-Night dances at the Eagles Club with their many, family and friends.   After her husband's passing in 1980 Nina moved back to Blue Hill to care for her mother Hester. She was a talented crocheter and made many prayer shawls for her church.  When she wasn't busy traveling with friends you could find her watching the Huskers on TV or reading a favorite book.   In 2014 she moved to Arizona to live with her granddaughter Shelli and husband Jon until her passing in 2024. She touched many lives there and quickly gained the nickname “Grams”. She was the heart of her family and will be missed greatly.

Nina is preceded in death by her parents and brother Art, her husband Glenn, son Danny, and her beloved chihuahua Gizmo. Nina is survived by her granddaughter, Shelli (Jon) Correll; two step grandchildren, Tina (Randon) Nelson and Jim Neff; two great grandchildren, Morgan and Danielle (Joe) Buck; four step great grandchildren, Brandon, Tiffany, Cody and Kyle Correll; four great-great grandchildren, AJ, Brody, Aubrey, and Jake, four beloved nieces, Patricia Crosby, Sherri Hansen, Sharron Altmeier and Judy Redden, one beloved nephew, Dale Jacobson.  A memorial service will be held at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Blue Hill on Saturday April 6th,2024, 10:30 a.m. with Ann Auten officiating.  Inurnment will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Bladen, Nebraska.  There will no viewing or visitation as her wishes were to be cremated.  A memorial has been established to be designated at a later date.  Memorials and condolences may be mailed to Jon and Shelli Corell, P.O.
