Margaret Zimmerman Obituary

Margaret J. Zimmerman, 87, Blue Hill, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.  Service is Sunday, September 14, 2025, 2:00 pm. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Blue Hill, Nebraska with Pastor Matt Sass officiating.  Interment will be in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Blue Hill, Nebraska.  There will be no viewing or visitation as her wishes were to be cremated.  A memorial has been established to be designated at a later date.  The service will be live-streamed on Merten-Butler Mortuary’s website.  To view the service go to Margaret’s obituary and click on the play button towards the bottom of the page.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mertenbutlermortuary.com.  Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret was born on June 22, 1938, to Ellis and Annie (Gessell) Bohy at Taylor, Nebraska.  She graduated from Taylor High School then attended Nebraska Wesleyan University.  She then went to the Bryan School of nursing and graduated with her degree as a RN.  She married Harry C. Zimmerman on November 17, 1960, at Taylor, Nebraska.  She moved to Blue Hill in 1968 from Virginia.  She worked at Mary Lanning Healthcare for over 35 years retiring in 2003 as an OB Nurse.  Margaret was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Blue Hill United Methodist Church for many years and was a current member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.  Margaret liked to cross stitch and actively followed her grandchildren’s activities.

Margaret is survived by two sons, James (Heather) Zimmerman, Wilber, Nebraska, Dr. Timothy (Laurie) Zimmerman, Hastings, Nebraska; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Terry) Smith, Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Robert (Sue) Zimmerman, Jarratt, Virginia, Irene Shields, Jarratt, Virginia and Barbara Strickland, Jarratt, Virginia; nine grandchildren, BreAnna, Nathan, Jonathan, Kaitlyn, Ethan, Logan, Myra, Trevor and Emily; many nieces and nephews.  Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Paul; sister and brother-in-law, Martha (Calvin) Ditson; one infant brother.
