At the age of 4 Lucetta began her education in a one room school house, Pleasant Valley, near Riverton. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1948. That fall she enrolled in the Kearney State Teachers College. Since she was only 16, Lucetta’s mother was required to verify with the College she had graduated. Upon completion of her teacher’s certificate she was hired for her first job in a small school south of Campbell. During her time as a teacher, she lived with two different families, Maurice and Irene Hermanson and Ervin and Velma Golter. Walking home after school one cold winter day, Milford Bierhaus stopped and offered her a ride. On December 17, 1950 they married in Franklin, Nebraska at the United Missionary Church. To this union four children were born; Marilyn, Joyce, JoAnn and Gary.
Lucetta kept books for Milford during his years with Conoco. She was a Girl Scout Leader, taught Sunday School and organized Christmas and Bible School programs for many years. In addition, she drove school bus for Campbell School for 14 years, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Afterwards she worked for the Campbell Grandview Manor nursing home until her retirement. Lucetta was a kind and loving person and her family meant the world to her. Lucetta loved flowers. She spent countless hours in her garden because she hated weeds. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, playing games and making cards for friends and family.
