LaVera A. Witte, 92, Grand Island, Nebraska formerly of Blue Hill, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Tiffany Square, Grand Island, Nebraska. Rosary will be Friday, December 27, 2024, 10:00 a.m. and Mass will be Friday, December 27, 2024, 10:30 a.m. both at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Blue Hill, Nebraska with Father Adam Sparling officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Hill Catholic Cemetery, Blue Hill, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday, December 26, 2024, from 1:00-8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska. Memorials can be directed to Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The service will be live-streamed on Merten-Butler Mortuary’s website. LaVera was born on March 6, 1932, to Albert and Mary (Bolte) Hofstetter at Lawrence, Nebraska. She attended Sacred Heart School through the eighth grade and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1950. She married Walter G. Witte on May 14, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lawrence, Nebraska. They celebrated 71 years of marriage together. LaVera was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Holy Trinity Altar Society and the Lawrence Legion Auxiliary. LaVera dedicated her life helping with farmwork and raising her son. She enjoyed being around her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to cook and was known for her fried chicken and potato salad.
LaVera is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Norman (Penny) Witte, Blue Hill, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Scott (Lyndsey) Witte, Hastings, Nebraska, Rachel (Phillip) Runyan, Blue Hill, Nebraska, April (Brandon) Hotovy, Grand Island, Nebraska, Maci Witte, Clay Center, Nebraska; eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Eleanor Schendt, Hastings, Nebraska; five sisters-in-law, Joan Rempe, Superior, Nebraska, Doris Hartman, Blue Hill, Nebraska, Marie Paulson, Hastings, Nebraska, Laura Witte, Hastings, Nebraska, Kathy Witte, Chicago, Illinois; two brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert Witte, Blue Hill, Nebraska, Richard (Pam) Witte, Kearney, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents, Albert and Mary Hofstetter; parents-in-law, Alvin V. and Charlotte Witte; one grandson, Travis Witte; one great grandson, Javin Witte; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Viola Hofstetter, Alice (Gerald) Kohmetscher, Bertha (Irvin) Kathman; three brothers and sister-in-law, Vernon Hofstetter, Donald Hofstetter, James (LaVeta) Hofstetter; brother-in-law, Raymond Schendt; one infant sister-in-law; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mildred (Bob) Buschkoetter; seven brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald (Mary) Witte, Louis Witte, Alvin H. Witte, Eddy Rempe, Rodney Hartman, John Degener, Russell Paulson.
