Gerald Bernard Kucera (JD) was born September 27th,1959 to Donald and Elizabeth (Ostdiek) Kucera in Superior, NE. He died at his home on the family farm east of Lawrence, NE on April 1st, 2025. Rosary will be Friday, April 4, 2025, 10:00 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 4, 2025, 10:30 a.m. both at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Deweese, Nebraska with Father Adam Sparling officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 -10:30 at the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Lawrence, Nebraska. Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Church Restoration Fund, Lawrence, Nebraska. The service will be live-streamed on Merten-Butler Mortuary’s website. Gerald grew up on a farm in rural Deweese where he attended Sacred Heart Grade School. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1977. After high school he attended Central Tech. After his parents moved to town, he moved to his family’s homestead where he spent his childhood. Gerald was a hardworking man; for many years he worked at Himmelberg Hog Farm and twelve years for Landmark Implement where he recently retired on September 26th, 2024. Gerald also enjoyed farming and farmed the homestead. From his former marriage he was blessed with a son Joshua Kucera.
Gerald spent the twelve years working at Landmark Implement alongside his son. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and was looking forward to retirement. He adored his grandsons and got great joy out of their company and several cat naps. He enjoyed boating some with his son and could still water ski. He spent many hours helping build his son and daughter-in-law’s home, putting together Christmas presents for his grandsons, such as, their trampoline and contributed to making their dream fort a reality.
Gerald is survived by his son Joshua (Megan Overturf) Kucera of Edgar, NE and four grandsons Dawson, Collin, Carson, and Rowan. Also survived by four siblings Donna (Ron) Dale, Arlene (Duane) Alber, Arnold (Carol) Kucera, and Barbara (Steve) Horton, brother-in-law, Ron Janda and many nieces and nephews. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Carolyn Janda.
