In Memory of Edward William Ostdiek
Lawrence resident Edward William Ostdiek, 71, passed away on July 29, 2024, at his home in Lawrence, NE. Rosary will be Saturday, August, 3, 2024, 10:00 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 3, 2024, 10:30 a.m. both at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Lawrence, Nebraska with Father Denton Morris officiating. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Lawrence, Nebraska. There will be no viewing or visitation as his wishes were to be cremated. A Memorial has been established to be designated at a later date. The service will be live-streamed on Merten-Butler Mortuary’s website. Edward William Ostdiek was born on November 5, 1952 in Nelson, NE to Herman and Irene (Schroer) Ostdiek. He lived his childhood years on their farm near Mount Clare, NE where he attended St. Stephen’s Catholic School. They later moved to Lawrence, NE where he attended and graduated from Lawrence Public School. Ed graduated from Central Community College in Hastings with a degree in Automotive Technology.
On November 3, 1979, Ed was united in marriage to Linda Mazour. Together they made their home in Lawrence, NE where they raised their five children. Ed worked as an auto mechanic for many years. He owned and operated Ed’s Repair in Lawrence, NE. Early in his adult life, he was diagnosed with a challenging disease that made it difficult for him to continue his mechanic career. Ed transitioned to working with small engines and was an Arien’s lawn mower dealer for the remainder of his working years. You could always find Ed working on something in his shop with his dog, Buddy by his side. He enjoyed being outdoors and took great pride in his lawn and garden. Ed was a member of the Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chief for several years before retiring. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, Lawrence Son’s of the American Legion and Sacred Heart Church.
Ed is survived by his wife Linda; children, Amy (Scott) Roth of Smith Center, KS, Michael (Jenee Kucera) Ostdiek of Lincoln, NE, Lisa (Brett) Peterson of Lawrence, NE, Christa Ostdiek of Sherman Oaks, CA and Shane Ostdiek of Lawrence. NE.; brothers, John Ostdiek, Ray (Lois) Ostdiek of Lawrence, NE; Sisters Marge (Craig) Buescher of South Bend, NE, Marie (Ron) Herbek of Deweese, NE and sister in-law Helen Ostdiek of David City, NE; mother in-law Rita Mazour, Lawrence, NE; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry (Donna) Mazour, Lawrence, NE, Lonnie (Sandy) Mazour, Trumbull, Ne.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lori (Phil) Dechow, Gretna, Ne.; his beloved Grandchildren Kynlee, Easton and Raegan Peterson, Avery Roth and Charlie Schroeder, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Irene Ostdiek; brothers, Vern Ostdiek an
