Dennis Robert Skalka, LTC USAF (Ret.), 82, of Mico, Texas was called to the Lord’s Service on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, from Blue Skies of Texas in San Antonio. Interment with full military honors will be Saturday, September 27, 2025, 10:00 a.m. at St. Martin-Loucky Cemetery, Deweese, Nebraska with Father Denton Morris officiating. Memorials can be directed to Knights of Columbus, PO Box 1, Lawrence, Nebraska 68957 or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 2102 Avenue J, Hondo, Texas 78861. Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.
Dennis was born on December 16, 1942, in Fairfield, Nebraska to James Thomas and Anna Louise (Bednar) Skalka. After a year of practicing veterinary medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, Dennis served in the United States Air Force 23 years in Veterinary Service and Infection Control. Dennis and Margaret Ann Fair, an Air Force nurse married on February 3, 1992. They both had a love of country life near Medina Lake. He was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Hondo, Tx.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 33 years; sons, Dr. Christopher Fair (Raquel) and David Fair; daughters, Laura Newton (Carl) and Andrea Montalvo (Mikeal); 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Dennis is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bernard.
