DeLores Meyer Obituary

DeLores E Meyer, age 89, of Campbell, NE, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2024, at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney. She was born on September 10, 1934, in Campbell, NE, to the late Virgil and Ramona (Portz) Gerten.

DeLores was baptized at Campbell on September 19, 1934, and went on to attend country school before graduating from Bladen High School in 1952. Her passion for education led her to Kearney State College, where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Education on May 27, 1966. On April 7, 1956, DeLores married the love of her life, Gerhart Meyer, in Campbell, NE. Together, they shared nearly 68 years of marriage and welcomed two beloved sons into the world: Travis and Shawn.

DeLores dedicated 37 years of her life to teaching, beginning her career in rural one-room schools before spending the last 27 years at Holstein Public School. Her commitment to education was unwavering, and she touched the lives of countless students throughout her career. Outside of her teaching duties, DeLores found joy in helping Gerhart on the family farm and ranch. In 1993, she retired from teaching and transitioned to working full-time on the farm, a role she embraced until her official retirement in September of 2020 at the remarkable age of 86.

DeLores will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her devoted husband, Gerhart Meyer; her sons, Travis (Rose) Meyer of Tulsa, OK, and Shawn (Rhonda) Meyer of Beatrice, NE; her cherished grandchildren, Anna (Michael) Mills, Leah Meyer, Ashton Meyer, Crosby Meyer, Jakob Gartzke, Lukas Gartzke, Kaleb Gartzke, Jacob (Feliz) Meyer, Kaela Meyer, Aaron Meyer, and Chase Meyer; her great-grandchildren, Hadley, London, and Hesston Mills; her sister, Joann VanBoening; Sister in Laws, Kathy, Nancy, and Darlene Gerten, Brother in Law, Terry Masters and a host of other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

DeLores was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings, Dick, Dale, Lloyd, James, Bob, Judy and Maryann.
