Cynthia Jan Johnson (Davenport, Payne) Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Cousin, Friend and proud Veteran of the USMC, Nebraska native, lover of horses, reader and gardener; passed away suddenly while gardening on the 30th of March 2025 at the age of 76.
Born on March 18, 1949, in Milford, Nebraska, Cindy started schooling at a one room country schoolhouse and later graduated from Orleans High School. After graduation in 1967 she joined the Marine Corps. After National service she continued a lifelong career in Government with the State of Minnesota Forestry, which fit with her love of nature. After retiring she moved back to Nebraska where she enjoyed following her family and friends on Facebook and she knew what you and the weather were up to.
Cindy is survived by her son, Eric Johnson of Maryland; grandchildren, Elexis Eshbaugh and Kaleb Johnson of Colorado; brother, John Davenport; sister, Joy Davenport; many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Juddson and Nettie (Payne) Davenport, brother Jim and sister Jane.
Graveside services to honor and Celebrate Cindy’s life with Military rites by A.L. Merlin Palmer Post #233 and the USMC Honor Guard will be held at the Stamford, NE cemetery on Saturday, April 26th, 2025, at 1pm, followed by a luncheon in town. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Arbor Day Foundation (plant a tree) or any Veteran’s charity of you choosing. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mertenbutlermortuary.com.
