Robert Meents Obituary

Robert Eugene Meents, 86, Blue Hill, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019 at The Hearthstone Nursing Home, York, Nebraska.  Service will be Friday, October 18, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Blue Hill, Nebraska with Rev. Jeffrey Kuddes officiating.  Burial with Military Rites by A.L. Shirley Post #176 will be in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Blue Hill, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Merten-Butler Mortuary and one hour prior to service at the church.  Memorials can be directed to the church or A.L. Shirley Post #176, Blue Hill, Nebraska.  Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.mertenbutlermortuary.com.  Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.

Robert was born on August 14, 1933 to John E. and Marie C. (Busking) Meents at Guide Rock, Nebraska.  He graduated from Blue Hill High School in 1951.  He then served in the United States Army from 1953-1955.  After returning from the service he moved to Omaha, Nebraska and worked at Vickers Hydraulic.  He was united in marriage to Marlene J. Mueller on May 5, 1957 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Griswold, Iowa.  They returned to Blue Hill in 1958 to farm and began milking cows and raising hogs.  They eventually had stock cows and raised calves.  He became a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Rosemont, Nebraska in 1958.  When they retired from farming in 1997 he became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Blue Hill, Nebraska.  After retiring he enjoyed working for the fertilizer plant in Blue Hill and hauling grain during harvest.  He and Marlene loved to travel and visited in all 50 states.  They also enjoyed much of Canada.  They also enjoyed many years of dancing and spending time with family and friends.  He was a former member of Calvary Lutheran Church and current member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he had held many offices in both Church’s.  He was also a member of A.L. Shirley Post #176, Blue Hill, Nebraska.  He was a very loving Husband, Father and special Grandparent to his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

Robert is survived by his wife; Marlene, York, Nebraska; five children; Todd (Lori) Meents, Blue Hill, Nebraska, Tami (Mike) McHargue, Lincoln, Nebraska, Joni (Rick) Learch, Omaha, Nebraska, Brad (Jill) Meents, Charlotte, North Carolina, Mike (Juanita Olsen) Meents, Grand Island, Nebraska; one sister, Kathy (Paul) Battiste, Redmond, Washington; one sister-in-law, JoAnne Meents, Elkhorn, Nebraska; grandchildren and great grandchildren; Jason (Sara) Meents, Layna, Cali and Bryn, Lincoln, Nebraska, Abbey (Rydell) Lienemann, Landon, Maddison and Rylin, Hildreth, Nebraska, Travis (Ti) Meents, Kearney, Nebraska, Cortney (Alex) Hyde, Lincoln, Nebraska, Laura (Derek) Korbelik, Oliver, Lincoln, Nebraska, Derek Learch, Omaha, Nebraska, Jaclyn (Nate) McGovern, Omaha, Nebraska, Grady (Ashlie Petersen) Meents, Majer, Jaden (Bre Gillming) Meents, Brylie, Grand Island, Nebraska, Isabella Meents, Charlotte, North Carolina, many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Wayne Meents, infant twin brother and sister and one granddaughter; Blakeley Meents.
